Play Therapy
Acorn & Oak Counseling specializes in Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with children ages 3-12 years working through a variety of challenges. CCPT is an evidence-based treatment that is a natural and appropriate way for children to work through challenging events, emotions, and behaviors that uproot their lives and relationships.
Parent Support
The most important people in a child’s life are the adults who care for them. At Acorn & Oak, a critical piece in your child’s therapy is supporting you, the parent/caregiver, through coaching and skill building to enhance the work your child is doing in their own therapy.
Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT)
CPRT is a well-researched approach proven to decrease parent stress and reduce maladaptive behavior in children. This is an option for you, the parent/caregiver, to learn skills, tools, and principles to respond more effectively to your child’s emotional and behavioral needs without involving them in therapy at our office.

Children aren’t often willing or able to sit through lengthy discussions, nor do worksheets translate to changed behavior. Why? Because children aren’t developmentally ready to process that way. However, play engages your child in the therapeutic process in a way that other types of therapy can’t. Play therapy allows your child to express him/herself in their own way, in their own time, with toys, games, and activities specifically selected to provide them the opportunity to do so.
